Batool, 16 years-old – Al Salam school student
“Honestly, I’m not sure what I will do later, and one thing I know is that nobody can predict the future. My parents want me to become a doctor but what I’d really like is to be a journalist. I started thinking of it when the war started. I realized I was surrounded by people who deeply wanted and needed to tell their stories. Syrians all have a difficult life and each of them deserves to have his story heard: the whole world should know what they have been through. I believe journalists have a big responsibility towards them, to share their stories and do it in a truthful way…And I want to tell the truth, Syria’s truth.
About a month ago, Karam Foundation volunteers visited Al Salam School and gave a workshop on journalism, they taught us so many things, like real skills that we’ll need in the future. I even produced my first report on Syrian sweets’ production in Reyhanli. Meeting them was a great opportunity and I’m super thankful Al Salam school made it possible.”
