Al Salam School in Reyhanli, a Syrian refugee school a few kilometers from the border held its first student parliamentary elections where the students got to elect 10 of their representatives . The 10 elected students used the following slogans as part of their election campaign:

  • “We will build our new Free world” (Abdel Aziz – Male – Grade 9)
  • “We look for humanity among all people” (Shahad – Female – Grade 11)
  • “Despite the difficulties, we face the challenges and we build our nation” (Rama, Female, Grade 12)
  • “We are elevated with awareness and culture” (Islam, Male, Grade 10)
  • “My work for my Hope” (Eman, Female, Grade 7)
  • “If you don’t add anything to life then you are just an addition to it “(Lama, Female, Grade 7)
  • “By cooperating together we build our school” (Islam, Male, Grade 5)
  • “How beautiful is our school when it’s decorated with cleanliness” (AlBihess, female, Grade 6)
  • “With our hard work and by excelling we enlighten our paths” (Mohamad, Male, Grade 8)

With 200 participants, Lama received the highest number of votes and became the head of the student’s Parliament. Not bad for a first election, a female elected leader and a 60% female to 40% male ratio for elected representatives.
