Got talent?
This semester, the McGill Syrian Students’ Association and the Concordia Syrian Students’ Association have joined efforts to shed light on an incredible humanitarian initiative for Syrian Refugees. It is a Syrian-Canadian project that consists of a school and a *home* to 2,000 Refugee children: Al-Salam School in Reyhanli, Turkey. The school currently provides 2,000 children with free education, psychological counseling, recreational activities, and essential subsidies.
On April 30th, 2015, after you’ve nailed your finals to the ground, it’s your turn to get involved! SSA McGill & Concordia are opening the floor for inspiration and self-expression. Join us for our second Open Mic Night of flourishing talent and ambitions.
The theme for this year will be: “I am a Refugee”.
Indeed, we have all been there one way or another… Have you ever had to leave the place that is closest to your heart? Have you ever sat in despair in front of the TV screen watching news reports depicting that place you once called “home” as a hopeless war-zone? When presented with a world map, do your eyes unconsciously drift to where you would rather be?
What is “home”? What is a “Refugee”?
We invite you to support this fundraising effort by participating as passionate performers and spectators, and sharing our initiative among your colleagues. Let’s keep our kids in school where they belong. And while they’re there, let’s give them the best education they deserve.
*Note: the theme was suggested in honor of the context and the cause. It is accommodating of different interpretations and perspectives, and is not meant to be restricting in any way. All flavors of talent and creativity are welcome.*

1) Al Salam-School is a safe haven for our kids; its mission is purely humanitarian as it aims to provide new Syrian generations with opportunities to take small steps forward in a path of solutions, alternatives, and new ideas that will one day be brought forth to our devastated Syria.
2) Its employees and teachers are pouring their hearts and souls into the education of our children to help them rebuild their lost dreams away from extremism, militarization, and early marriages.
